06-Nov-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for the beta's after nr 51 up to the 4.01 release:
  • You can now set the colour for hyperlinks in the "Hyperlinks" preferences page.
  • There is now a "Print" button in the preview mode
  • The wrapping options in the preview mode right-click menu now work.
  • The import/export options on the addressbook menu now work.
  • All other options on the "Addressbook" menu now work
  • The "Print setup" option has been removed from the "File" menu.
  • It should no longer be possible to crash the program by pressing <Esc> too quickly after printing a message.
  • System-wide addressbooks will now automatically close themselves if left open and unused for 30 minutes.
  • Sorting options in the folder preview mode should now be preserved if that option is turned on in the "Folders and previews" preferences.
  • A new version of WSENDTO.EXE is included which should not issue spurious security alerts for e-mail addresses containing the characters "-F".
  • The "What's new" section of the help file has been updated
  • There is now a new etiquette entry advising against using "group reply" functions unnecessarily.
  • The "Content viewers" preferences page works now so that any system-wide definitions are shown in blue at the end of the list. This means that you can tell at a glance whether a system-wide definition exists to handle a particular type of file, although you can't edit, move or delete those definitions.
  • The attachment's original filename now appears in the <F7> attachments view of the message editor instead of the name of the interim temporary file where the data is stored and Attachment information sections are now suppressed in this situation even if they are turned on in your preferences.
  • The "Table" button in the editor now has an option to set the cell colour for the current cell(s). The "grey background" option when creating a table also works now.
  • The folder counters are kept up-to-date.
  • The MGUIDE has been updated - somewhat. Parts of it are probably a bit out of date now, but who really reads it anyway?
  • The v4.01 release archive includes amended .DMI files and omits the now obsolete WINSOCK.DMI file.

26-Oct-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 51 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • In this version, the "Addressbook properties" dialog now works - you can get to this by clicking the "Book..." button in the <F3> window.
  • You can now set address pasting and alias resolution either on a book by book basis, or globally. The book-by-book mode is compatible with v3.x, so if you have existing preferences set up from v3.x, it should pick them up.
  • Lot's of drag-n-drop fixes both in beta 50 and 51.

26-Oct-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 50 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • The installer has been completed now. It will either update or install a new version, on users request.
  • You should no longer be able to have multiple instances of the spelling checker window open.
  • There is now a "Translating Pegasus Mail" help section In the Help menu.
  • System-wide addressbooks are inherently read-only now
  • David Harris wrote to the Beta team: Since July 25th last year, or almost exactly fifteen months ago, a minimum of 11,407 distinct messages have passed through the WinPMail-Beta list in the course of nearly 50 beta cycles, each cycle averaging 14 documented feature additions or fixes and countless undocumented ones. We've been busy... I just hope the user base appreciates *how* busy we've been.
  • All the IMAP TCP/IP transactions are now forces into the foreground. The effect of this is that WinPMail will be unresponsive while an IMAP operation is in progress - you won't be able to do other tasks within WinPMail. While it's not perfect, it should make the existing IMAP code almost totally reliable and probably won't really impact much on usability.
  • The "Pegasus Mail v4.x" addressbook format option is removed from the program.
  • The program's default settings now include the following: Copyself=ON, Autoreplace=ON, Autosave=ON, 1 minute, Save deleted message=ON in standalone mode only
  • There is a new dedication screen in the "About Pegasus Mail" dialog. (Did you ever click the Horse there.....)
  • The welcome message that is placed in the new mail folder for new users has been rewritten.

21-Oct-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 49 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available)
  • A possible crash situation is solved, this is where you are dragging the *last* message out of a folder, i.e. the folder only contains one message and it will end up as empty after the move
  • You can now press the Ctrl+Y key to delete from the current line to the end of the buffer without worrying about the cursor scrolling and the rest of your buffer being "eaten up".
  • You can now paste from the clipboard into the signature editor, the distribution list editor and the Annotations panel of the message reader window.
  • The "Pegasus Mail v4.x" mail folder file format option is removed from the Add Mail Folder dialog.
  • WinPMail does prompt you now concerning the deletion of an address book entry when the "Confirm before deleting an object" option is enabled in the General Basic options.
  • You can now "apply general rule set to a folder" when a regular mail folder is selected in the Folders list.
  • You can now drag and drop a message onto an addressbook from a classic mail folder in order to add an addressbook entry.
  • Pegasus Mail *should* save its settings and shut itself down correctly if you shut down Windows while it is running. This might solve problems with corrupt folders.

21-Oct-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 48 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • If you moved the last message out of a folder, you would often (although not always) get a crash. Fixed now.
  • If you moved a single message out of a folder, the message preview window would "lock up" until the next time you moved or copied a message. Fixed now
  • Beta 48 now correctly locates and saves annotations in noticeboard messages.
  • When the new right-mouse option "Start a new message to sender" is used, the message that is created now uses the identity attached to the folder, if any.
  • The "Add extra white space around the message editor" option is removed and it's now the default setting.
  • System-wide addressbooks now always open in read-only mode
  • The "keywords" field in the "standard message editor with keywords" variant now has a "recently-used keywords" button.
  • Any address in the To, CC, or BCC field that contains high-bit characters is now correctly RFC1522-encoded.
  • Copies-to-self should now display personal names with high-bit characters correctly.
  • Aliases that contain international characters should now resolve correctly in addressbooks.
  • The header and footer in printed messages should now correctly display any international characters.
  • Local mail (ie, non-SMTP mail) now uses RFC1522-encoded headers for address fields.

21-Oct-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 47 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • The program will now display a warning if the mailbox (either local or IMAP) is in use.
  • The new mail folder updates properly now in either preview or classic modes.
  • The default width of the "Folders" window has been enlarged slightly so that the "Preview" button is fully-visible when the window is at its default size. Note that this only affects users running the program for the first time.

01-Oct-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 46 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • The Find function in preview mode has it's own start window to select from which pane to search.
  • There is now help on regular expression syntax added, that gets opened when the little button in the expression rule editor is clicked.
  • New folder message status indicators. You will be surprised...
  • There are now "Find" buttons in both classic and preview mode folder windows.
  • You can now set the font in the message reader. At this stage, one font applies to both headers and body.
  • Addresses should now get added to the RUA list when you forward a message as a digest or without editing.
  • UDG definitions including a "~r" substitution command should no longer cause crashes when doing replies to all.
  • When using the right-click reader option to copy the address of a URL to the clipboard, the clipboard should now be properly cleared of out-of-date data.

01-Oct-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 45 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • The problems with orphaned .PNX and .BU files (this was caused by the autosave feature) are solved
  • The problems with the new mail counter in the folder manager window are solved.
  • URL hovering should no longer report excess verbiage. As a corollary to this, right-click options that weren't working correctly before should mostly work correctly now.
  • The right-click URL option should work in the preview mode
  • Variable signatures should now work correctly in richtext signatures.
  • The splash screen and "About" dialogs should now look right in 256-colour mode.
  • The preferences dialog will now come to the front if the option is selected while it is already open.
  • Pegasus Mail should now be able to handle just about any imaginable method of embedding attached graphics.

23-Sept-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 44 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • The quick copy/move function is now working as it should.
  • Hovering the mouse over any type of hyperlink in the message reader or the preview mode will show the target of the link on the status bar.
  • Right-clicking a hyperlink will give you a context-sensitive right-click menu with options to start a new message, copy the link to the clipboard, add the address to an addressbook, or add the address to a distribution list. If you right-click a non-email hyperlink, the only options are to open the link in a browser or to copy the link to the clipboard.
  • All bitmapped buttons in the program should now have matched "greyed" versions to display when their container window is not active.
  • The DList editor no longer wrap addresses
  • Pressing <F3> while the window is already open with the Dlist editor selected will now properly select the addressbook view.
  • You can now drag messages from the preview mode and drop them on the window to start a new addressbook entry.

23-Sept-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 43 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • There's now a right-click option in the folder view that allows you to start a new message to the sender of the highlighted message or messages in the folder.
  • The message editor now uses the new printing logic. This means, by definition, that you can also do partial printing in the message editor now.
  • The "Info" dialog in the "About Pegasus Mail..." dialog has been enlarged.

23-Sept-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 42 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • It turns out that if you have "Disable all formatting" turned on *AND* use the built-in SMTP transport to send mail, you'll get messages with very long lines - essentially, the mm margin is incorrectly used as the character margin. This is now fixed.
  • After CTRL+N, CTRL+SHIFT+T and on Dlist and Recently ued addresses after the first ALT+A no further keyboard action is possible before a mouseclick. This is now fixed.
  • The preferences dialogs now all have the proper set of options (redundant options have been removed), and are all be equivalently aligned.
  • Every preference dialog now has complete, up-to-date help.
  • Help can be accessed in the preferences window by pressing <F1> (this hasn't been supported in previous betas).
  • The "Copy-self" options are moved onto their own preferences page
  • The "Outgoing mail" options are rearranged
  • her is now a "Preview" toggle button in the "Attachments" view of the message reader; this button allows you to turn previewing on and off.
  • Pressing <F1> in the message reader now opens the help (it didn't in previous betas). The help now contains a prominent link to the tutorial, and has a new keyboard reference.

06-Sept-2001:   The following items are changed/fixed for beta 41 (this beta will NOT be made publicly available):
  • Closing a folder from which messages have been opened should once again close the messages as well.
  • Replies should no longer be wrap-munged when you send them using the built-in SMTP transport.
  • Partial replies to sections of multipart messages should now work correctly.
  • Drag and drop should now work in the preview mode. Note that dropping a message into a message editor is now much smarter than in previous versions: it no longer matters what view of the message editor is selected and you can now drag a message and drop it in the BCC field of the Special page if you want to drop an address there.
  • The hyperlink marking limit should now be honoured when you open a message using reformatted wrapping.
  • Receipt confirmations should no longer generate garbage in the "To" portion of the confirmation body.
  • A new version of TER32/HTS32 is included: this one fixes the direction of the middle-button scroll operation

06-Sept-2001:   All information up to the public beta (which is in fact beta 40) can be found here.
