Up to now (4.02 Beta 14) the following (new) items have been corrected / changed:
- Final release
- No further changes.
- Gold release candidate
- Messages with long lines (longer than 250 characters) will now no longer crash on sending when you have pre-send attachment checking turned on.
- The "Add identity" dialog now has a scrollbar on the "Base on" dropdown list.
- There is now a tutorial on editing your signature, which stresses the need to edit each variation.
- Beta 17
- Ctrl+Z characters in new mail are now stripped, which should prevent message truncation problems once messages are moved to v2-format folders.
- The "DoS Exploit" based on long From: or To: addresses has been fixed - Pegasus Mail now caps individual addresses at 250 characters.
- Filenames for downloaded POP3 mail are now much more robustly constructed. This should more or less eliminate all possibility of duplicate internal message ID fields in folders.
- A "trick" has been applied to the way internal UIDs are constructed that should prevent duplicate IDs from appearing in a folder when the same message is copied into the folder more than once.
- .PNX files *should* now be correctly deleted when sending a reloaded queued or saved message.
- All .CNX files are now deleted on program exit.
- The drop-down control in the encryption preferences page now has a dynamic scrollbar (it will appear when needed).
- Beta 16 (RC2)
- This version will fix a Ctrl+Y crash under Windows XP.
- SETREG now sets up the registry in the way Jan M proposed. Note that on existing systems, in order to take advantage of this, you may need to go into the "Hyperlinks" preferences page and click the "MSIE Mailer" button. The v4.02 version of SETREG can be retrofitted to earlier versions of Pegasus Mail - simply copy it into the same directory as WINPM-32.EXE.
- You can now edit your signatures even if you have "No signature" set as your default.
- Several small resource changes requested by translators have been made.
- The beta 15 code that scans the first few lines of messages for attachments has been tweaked, so that it does *not* scan any line with your standard quoting prefix (default >). Only lines you actually type in will be checked for attachment indications.
- Beta 15 (RC1)
- A dialog similar to the "Open in web browser" is added, warning, for downloading pictures. The dialog warns about the amount of information that can be gleaned by a malicious sender and, like the browser warning, has a "don't show me this warning again" button.
- The way the "Font" button is handled in preview mode has been changed.
- The .ZIP files inside the installer package have now been renamed so that annoying utilities like ZIPMagic won't mess with them when the setup program tries to find them. The installer renames the files when it installs them.
- Beta 14
- The title of the folders window now correctly removes the folder name when you switch back to classic mode.
- A strange, intermittent problem where you could end up with your text changing font when you resent a message has been corrected.
- When you click "Send", WinPMail now scans the first few lines of the message looking for the words "attached", "attachment", "enclosed" and "enclosure": if it finds any and the message has no attachments, it pops up a little dialog asking if you've forgotten the attachments. This behavior can be turned off in the "Message formatting" preferences page, but it's kind of cute.
- In preview mode, pressing the back-quote key ( ` ) will now switch you back to the last window you were using. This keystroke makes it hugely easier to get back to a reply if you need to refer to a message. It's a very small change, but I think it's quite important.
- The order extension now forces the user to select the expiry date from drop-down lists so it can generate unambiguous 4-digit years...
- Beta 13
- A number of untranslatable strings have been moved into resources in response to requests from translators.
- The problem with the glossary list not updating properly when you click in the abbreviation list while the preview area has focus has now been corrected.
- "Open in browser" will now work in preview mode.
- The "Sender" field now updates correctly in the new address gleaning dialog.
- New versions of TER32.DLL and HTS32.DLL are now included.
- Added a "Show pictures" command in the right-click menu in the reader window, in classic mode only; NOT in preview mode at this stage.
- Beta 12
- The <Enter> key is now smart-mapped in preview mode; pressing <Enter> while the list of folders has focus will open the selected folder in its own window, while pressing <Enter> while either the message list or the preview area has focus will open the message in its own reader window.
- Right-clicking in the message reader when a selection is active has been tweaked: now, even if you click on an area of text marked as a hyperlink, you will get the standard right-click menu. This makes the new "Open as hyperlink" command much more intuitive, since you no longer need to right-click away from the selection.
- When you drag a message and drop it on any address field in the message editor, some new code takes over; it evaluates the From, Reply-To, Sender and Return-path fields of the message, and if there is only one field present or all the fields present contain the same address, it will add that address without further ado... If, however, the fields contain different addresses, it will pop up a dialog showing you the addresses and allowing you to select which combination you would like to use.
- Beta 11
- Address completion from addressbooks should now work for aliases containing high-bit characters.
- "Open selection as hyperlink" should now work in preview mode
- Ctrl+Space should now page the preview up irrespective of the pane that currently has focus
- The <spacebar> bar is now sensitive to the speedsearch timeout in the folder list when in preview mode... So, if you type a folder name then hit space within the speedsearch timeout period, it will select the folder. From that point, space will page the preview until you do another speedsearch operation (so, pressing space effectively terminates the speedsearch).
