On Februari 24, 2000 David Harris announced the release of the 32bit 3.12c version. The 16bit version will be available a bit later. This page will no longer be updated.

16-Feb-2000:
  • New feature: This new version includes transparent AUTH LOGIN and AUTH=LOGIN as a second choice authentication method after CRAM-MD5... So, if the server supports CRAM-MD5, It will always use that, but if only AUTH LOGIN is supported, It will use that. It does detect and allow for the faulty "AUTH=LOGIN" syntax used by some servers.

05-Feb-2000:
  • Fixed: There will no longer be an <no identity> option in the Tools, Identity menu window, AFTER having brought up the right- click dialog in the folders window.
  • Fixed: You can now use long filenames with uuencoding or base64.
  • Added: There is now a scroll bar in the identity box in the reply options?
  • Improved: The folder selector for move and copy has been enlarged.
  • Fixed: Some keyboard issues and focus problems have been resolved.
  • Changed behavior: The options in the reply dialog are now all treated as belonging to the *current* identity, no matter what identity you select for the reply. When setting up the message, WinPMail now uses the values from the *current* identity for anything settable in the reply dialog, and the settings from the *selected* identity for everything else.
  • Fixed: Auto-completion will now no longer trigger when you paste an address from any other source (such as addressbooks or extensions).
  • Improved: The first character you type is now no longer unilaterally modified by the auto-completion code - the case of whatever you type is preserved.
  • Changed behavior: In the distribution lists window, <Enter> now does a "Paste", and <Esc> now closes the window.
  • Keyboard issue:When the distribution list manager window gets the focus now, it will correctly activate its list for keyboard selection.

21-Jan-2000:
  • New: V3.12c now supports the ~N substitution for newmail paths, allowing the use of long usernames - although doing this will break the Win16 and DOS versions of the program. The changes are compatible with the way Mercury/32 does things, so someone using WinPMail/32 and Mercury/32 can now easily use long usernames.
  • New:: WinPMail now now checks the value for home-mailbox and new-mail directory provided by the user and strips any trailing "\" or "/" character before applying it.
  • Fixed: V3.12c will no longer connect to an IMAP mailbox while WinPmail is in offline mode
  • Fixed: The identity of a running interactive version of WinPMail is no longer used instead of the one selected by the "-ID <identityname>" option on the command-line version when queuing an outgoing message.
  • Fixed: You no longer get a second instance of the program instead of re-using the open program when you have maximized child windows open in the running version.
  • Fixed: The wording of the filename in the debug warning screen is updated.
  • New: You can now allow multiple selections in the Current Attachments list within the F7 Attachments panel of the message editor so that multiple attachments can be removed, saved at once or made changes to.
  • Fixed: MHS messages in the new mail folder loosed their "Read" tick if you have "Allow new mail to stay in the new mail folder" turned on, and close then reopen the new mail folder.
  • Fixed: Now there is a forced screen refresh, with the first item in the list visible, whenever the scrollbar is updated in a way that would result in missing scrollbars. This does not apply to the reader window, as it is currently not possible to fix the horizontal and vertical scrollbar issues in there.
  • Improved: If you perform a multiple move or copy operation from one folder to another, and the target folder is not open, it will be opened implicitly before the move/copy operation starts, and closed implicitly at the end of the operation as required. This results in much faster transactions on IMAP folders specifically.
  • Fixed: Whenever you change an identity in the Special [F9] pane, the signature belonging to the new identity was not applied.
  • New: Version 3.12c now supports the "vernacular" timezone specifications described in RFC822 - in particular, "EST", "EDT", "PST", "PDT", "MST", "MDT", "CST" and "CDT".
  • Fixed: Printer problems with queue names containing spaces should be solved now.
  • New:Version 3.12c will generate message IDs for all outgoing messages, local and SMTP.
  • New: You can now close the Draft Manager and Queue Manager windows by pressing <Esc>.
  • New: You can now close the selective mail download window by pressing <Esc> you can open the selected message by pressing <Enter>, and while you are viewing the headers of a message, you can close the viewer window by pressing <Esc>.
  • Improved: The amount of text that gets shown on the caption bar of a message in the reader window has been enlarged.
  • Improved: When doing a move/copy and creating a new folder the focus is now retained in the folder selection window (after new folder creation).
  • New: When doing a move/copy and creating a new folder, the newly created folder is now the selected folder once you finish creating it.

14-Jan-2000:
  • Changed behavior: In the custom reply header, the year will now be displayed in 4 digits, showing "2000" in stead of "00".
  • New: V3.12c will allow you to use Windows regional settings for the date string in your custom headers using a "~X" substitution. This has the side-effect of being very space-consuming in many cases. But it's been asked a lot lately.
